RHINOPLASTY (EN)

rinoplastia cirurgia plastica curitiba

RINOPLASTY

WHAT IS IT?

Rhinoplasty or nose surgery can be purely aesthetic or associated with functional corrections, such as a deviated septum or turbinate hypertrophy. There is an aesthetic balance between the nose and the face that must be studied in order to give the nose the best possible shape.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Scar
There is no visible scar in aesthetic nose surgery, as the incisions (cuts) are made inside the nose. In special cases, such as reductions of the nasal wings, there are two small scars on them, which are practically imperceptible.

Anesthesia
It can be local with sedation or general, as indicated by the anesthesiologist.

Surgical Time
From one to two hours.

PRE-OPERATIVE

1) Complementary exams to be specified.
2) Photography of the area. The photo session is important for evaluation, surgical planning, and documentation.
3) Attend the clinic on the agreed day and time, preferably accompanied, especially if the surgery is outpatient.
4) Do not bring jewelry and other valuables to the clinic.
5) Do not paint your nails.
6) Any intercurrence such as illnesses (flu, fever, infection) or other reasons that may lead to the suspension of the surgery, please inform in advance.
7) Arnica can be used to avoid bruising (bruises). This should be started one week to ten days before the surgery. Have an evaluation with the clinician for guidance on important pre-operative medications for healing and body balance, aiming for a better recovery.

CARE

1) Fasting for at least 6 hours before the start of the surgery.
2) Medication for hypertension and other diseases should be reported for further guidance.
3) Do not take medication containing acetylsalicylic acid (e.g., AAS, Rhonal, Buferin, Aspina) one week before and one week after the surgery as it increases bleeding.
4) Weight loss medication should be discontinued 15 days before the surgery.
5) Do not smoke 15 days before and 15 days after the surgery. How about taking the opportunity to quit smoking?

POST-OPERATIVE

Pain
The surgery is painless.

Hospital Stay
Variable from a few hours to 24 hours after the surgery.

First Dressings
Cold boric acid compresses or cold chamomile tea on the eyelids during the first 48 hours after the surgery.

Bath
Be careful not to wet the nose area for 7 days.

Diet
Normal

Bruises
You can use ointment specifically for eliminating bruises.

Swelling
It is normal for external swelling to persist for 3 to 4 months after the surgery. However, the swelling is more significant in the first 2 months, when we recommend not wearing prescription glasses or sunglasses.

Physical Efforts
Gym or sports are recommended with caution after 30 days to avoid nasal trauma.

Sun
Do not expose yourself to the sun for 30 days. We recommend using sunscreen with SPF 20 or higher during this period.

Rest
In the first days, rest should be done with the head elevated (two pillows). Preferably keep your face facing up to avoid lateral decubitus.

Respiratory Functions
Rarely are respiratory functions impaired after surgery. Some difficulty may occur in the immediate post-operative period due to swelling or the presence of crusts.

Makeup
It is allowed.

Hydration and Drainage
Skin hydration and massages that help in the recovery process can be done.

Sensitivity
There is increased sensitivity in the operated nose area, but without pain and it improves after 2 months.

"WILL THIS DISAPPEAR?"

Every surgery involves its own recovery period. Give it time, as your body will take care of dissipating small inconveniences that will inevitably attract someone's attention, leading them to ask: "Will this disappear?" Do not hesitate to share any concerns with us. We will provide the necessary clarifications for your peace of mind.

RESULT

Initially, during the first four months post-surgery, the area appears slightly edematous (swollen), but over time, there will be a gradual accommodation of organic tissues. From the fourth month, a new photo session takes place for comparison of pre and post-operative (before and after). This re-evaluation may indicate the need for some touch-up, a procedure considered common in plastic surgery, which should be performed after the 6th month and within a maximum of 10 months after the surgery.
