REDUCING MAMMOPLASTY
WHAT IS IT?
Reducing Mammoplasty
is the reduction of breast volume when it is exuberant.
Mastopexy is the removal of excess skin when there is significant flaccidity, with elevation of the breast, but without reduction of volume.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Scars
We always aim to leave small scars; however, these are related to the volume to be removed and the existing flaccidity. Scars can be in "L" or inverted "T" shapes or periareolar, depending on the case.
We recommend several postoperative care measures to achieve good quality regarding the scars. However, we cannot predict exactly how they will turn out, as this also depends on individual factors. Scars go through an evolutionary process where they initially appear more reddish and hardened and then become thinner and paler. This process is slow and can last several months.
Anesthesia
Can be with local sedation, epidural, or even general, as indicated by the anesthesiologist.
Surgical Time
Around 1.5 to 2 hours.
Age
Once the breast has stopped growing (when there is no longer a need to change bras to larger sizes).
After Pregnancy
Surgery is only recommended at least six months after the end of breastfeeding.
PRE-OPERATIVE
1) Complementary exams to be specified.
2) Photography of the area is important for evaluation, surgical planning
and documentation.
3) Provide a reinforced bra (corset type) (Yoga, De Millus, Du Loren, etc.) of the size previously agreed upon.
4) Attend the clinic on the agreed day and time, preferably accompanied, especially if the surgery is outpatient.
5) Do not bring jewelry and other valuables to the clinic.
6) Do not paint your nails.
7) Any intercurrence such as illnesses (flu, fever, infection) or other
reasons that may lead to the suspension of surgery should be reported in advance.
8) Arnica can be used to avoid bruising (bruises). This should be started one week to ten days before the surgery. Have an evaluation with the clinician for guidance on important preoperative medications for healing and balance of the body, aiming for better recovery.
CARE
1) Fasting for at least 6 hours before the start of the surgery.
2) Medication for hypertension and other diseases should be reported
for further guidance.
3) Do not take medication containing acetylsalicylic acid (e.g., AAS, Rhonal, Buferin, Aspirin) one week before and one week after the surgery as it increases bleeding.
4) Discontinue weight loss medications 15 days before surgery.
5) Do not smoke 15 days before and 15 days after the surgery. How about taking the opportunity to quit smoking?
POST-OPERATIVE
Pain
Depends on individual sensitivity, but is usually not very painful.
Hospital Stay
Generally, 24 hours of outpatient hospitalization.
First Dressings
Dressing with bandage immediately after surgery, and placement of the bra after 24 hours. Use of micropore (25 and 50mm) for two months with weekly changes.
Posture
As upright as possible.
Shower
Normal shower after 24 hours. Dry the micropore with a hairdryer.
Clothing
Try to wear open-front clothing. Wear the bra day and night for two months.
Diet
Normal.
Bruises
Bruises are absorbed within 7 to 10 days and special ointments or gels can be used.
Stitches
There are no stitches to be removed, as they are internal.
Physical Efforts
For one month, do not raise your arms above your shoulders, do not drive, and do not lift weights. Exercise and swimming only after four months.
Sexual Relations
In moderation, as soon as you feel ready.
Sun
Do not expose yourself to the sun for 30 days.
Shape
The initial shape of the breasts undergoes changes, resulting in a slight rotation of one of them, giving them a natural drop shape. The final shape is related to the skin type and consistency of the breasts.
Sensitivity
There may be changes in breast sensitivity
either increasing or decreasing for about 2
months, but it is temporary.
"WILL THIS DISAPPEAR?"
Every surgery involves its own recovery period. Give it time, and your body will take care of dissipating small disturbances that will inevitably attract someone's attention who will not refrain from observing: "Will this disappear?" Do not hesitate to share any concerns with us. We will provide the necessary clarifications for your peace of mind.
RESULT
From the fourth month, a new photographic session takes place for comparison of pre and post-operative (before and after). This re-evaluation may indicate the need for some touch-up, a procedure considered common in plastic surgery, and should be performed after the 6th month and within up to 10 months after the surgery.
